Back in May 1987 I paid a visit to my local RAF station, RAF Lyneham, to take some photos on their newly installed gate guardian.
The De Havilland DH-106 Comet was built in the 1950’s and had it’s first test flight in early 1957, it was subsequently transferred 216 Squadron at RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire later in 1957 and was given the serial number of XK669 and named “Sagittarius”
I believe it was withdrawn from service in the mid 1960’s and transferred to Henlow museum.
It remained as gate guardian at RAF Lyneham until its closure in 2013.
